HUNTING ON PRINCE OF WALES ISLAND can be
a very memorable and rewarding experience.  The Island
abounds with Sitka Black Tail Deer and Black Bear.  Many
trophy size animals have been taken over the years.  Most
hunters do their own hunting on the Island, as guides are
not required for Deer and Black Bear.  Deer season opens
on August 1st and goes through December.  Black Bear
season is open all year except the months of July and
August.  Check on the current regulations by going to:
www.wildlife.alaska.gov.

For hunters, the FLOATEL operates as a lodge, skiff and
car rental and licensing agent. We do NOT provide any
guiding or game handling because of very specific State
regulations for guiding.
FRESH WATER FISHING
Although we are a saltwater oriented lodge, Prince of Wales Island has numerous streams and rivers for self-guided fresh water fishing trips.  
Over 2,000 miles of improved gravel and paved roads connect Thorne Bay with many of the rivers.  Salmon (4 varieties), Steelhead, Trout and
Dolly Varden are prevalent in most of the streams.  You will need to bring all your own fresh water gear, as we do not have any for rent at the
FLOATEL.  We do carry some gear, rods & reels, and lures for purchase in our store Baskets & Bullets.  To get you to the streams and to explore
our Island we also have a 6 passenger Suburban for rent.

              SALT WATER CATCHING

    Salt-water fishing around Thorne Bay can be exciting.
A variety of bottom fish and four species of Salmon are
caught within easy boating distance from the comforts of
your log cabin. Bottom fish are available throughout our
season and it is not uncommon to find Halibut, Red
Snapper and Cod in the two bays nearby.
    In mid-May feeder King Salmon show up and are
followed by early Silver and Pink Salmon in late June. The
Salmon fishing for both Silvers and Pinks just keeps getting
better right through September.
     We are a great do-it-yourself fishing place.
We have rental boats saltwater rods & reels, bait, lures
and fishing licenses available at the Baskets & Bullets
Store for your convenience.
